Workshop
Smell of Poland

A sensory journey through Poland’s forests, waters, cities, and Baltic coast – translated into contemporary perfumery.

About this workshop

Experience Poland through its landscapes and the materials that give them a scent.

Hosted by Polish perfumer Jakub Pietrynka, founder of JMP Artisan Perfumes, this workshop explores the olfactive identity of Poland through its forests, trees, woods, waterways, green spaces, and Baltic coast.

From the deep, mossy character of Polish forests to the freshness of flowing rivers and the resinous warmth of Baltic amber, participants will discover how landscapes can be translated into contemporary fragrance.

Through guided smelling of perfumery molecules and compositions, the workshop invites participants to experience Poland not as a collection of traditional clichés, but as a living olfactive landscape – from wild nature to cities where ivy, water, trees, and green spaces become part of everyday life.

Workshop overview

From forests and ancient trees to rivers flowing through Polish cities and the Baltic coast, this workshop explores how the natural landscape of Poland can inspire contemporary perfumery.

Participants will smell selected perfumery molecules and fragrances created around them, exploring woody, green, mossy, resinous, mineral, and aquatic facets. The session will also touch on Baltic amber and its connection to the Polish coastline, as well as olfactive interpretations of Polish urban landscapes — where ivy-covered buildings, parks, waterways, and greenery meet the architecture of the city.

Questions & Answers

So, what does Poland actually smell like?

There is no single answer. Forests, wood, moss, rivers, Baltic amber, fresh greenery, and even the green spaces of Polish cities can all become part of its olfactive landscape. This workshop is an invitation to discover some of those interpretations for yourself.

Will we actually be smelling perfume molecules?

Yes! Jakub will introduce selected molecules and compositions that help recreate the atmosphere of Polish landscapes — from fresh green spaces and flowing water to woods, moss, and amber. You’ll be able to smell the individual materials and discover how they transform when brought together in a fragrance.

And what about Polish cities? Do they have a smell too?

Absolutely. Think ivy-covered walls, parks, rivers running through the city, wet greenery after rain, and the contrast between nature and architecture. You might be surprised by how much of a city can be captured through scent.
