Workshop
From Image to Olfaction with Maya Njie

Join independent perfumer Maya Njie for an intimate 120 minute workshop exploring scent, memory, and personal storytelling through fragrance.

About this workshop

Can images and memories be translated into scent?

Hosted by Maya Njie, this workshop will introduce a curated selection of modern and traditional perfumery materials, some through blind smelling exercises, conversations around scent culture and olfactory memory, and an introduction to common fragrance structures.

Through storytelling, synesthetic exploration, guided smelling, and interactive sensory exercises, the session explores how images, textures, colors, and emotions can be translated into olfaction.

Workshop overview

Participants discover why certain materials feel luminous, dark, smooth, or vibrant, and how perfumers intentionally compose fragrances through these invisible sensory associations.

You will be invited to submit a colour 4x6 landscape photograph ahead of the session. Using each image as a starting point for discussion and inspiration, Maya will create an individual A6 colour palette photograph for every participant - opening up conversations around mood, atmosphere, memory, texture, and association through scent.
