Michael Nordstrand US

Michael Nordstrand is the founder of Mythologist Studio™ and a singular voice in contemporary perfumery. His work is recognised for its balance of technical precision and emotional depth, rooted in a cross-disciplinary approach that unites art, history, and science.

He holds degrees and certifications in perfume creation and cosmetic sciences from Givaudan, ISIPCA, and The Grasse Institute of Perfumery as well as a certification in medicinal plants from Cornell University, where his focus was on aromatic plants popularised during the Middle Ages.

A self-described ‘method perfumer’, Michael always endeavours to inhabit the world of the client’s brief to fully understand the project and explore it from new angles; the creative dialogue opened between the perfumer and the client is therefore essential to his process.

Michael received the Art and Olfaction Award for his creation Bad Lily in 2025, and the British Society of Perfumers Award for Patchoulÿ Tartessos in 2024.

His practise spans fragrance creation for major houses alongside emergent, unconventional and independent brands. Recently, his institutional collaborations with the Getty and the Metropolitan Museum of Art have furthered botanical and archaeological research and educational initiatives examining humanity’s enduring relationship with aromatic plants.
