Introducing the material

The same Mediterranean plant, seen through a different botanical expression.

Female Pistacia lentiscus begins with the same unmistakable language of mastic — bitter green leaf, resinous warmth and dry Mediterranean vegetation — but with a softer, rounder progression through the material.

Distilled fresh from wild female plants around Jebel Bargou, this expression feels less about sharp green impact and more about how foliage gradually folds into resin, herbs and dry wood.

The difference is subtle, but that is exactly what makes the comparison interesting.

The opening

Fresh and green with a bitter leafy character, but slightly softer in its attack. Resin sits close underneath the foliage from the beginning.

The development

The green character broadens into warm herbs, balsamic facets and dry wood. The material becomes smoother and more integrated as it develops.

The drydown

Dry, woody and quietly resinous, with a soft earthy warmth and only a trace of fresh foliage remaining.

Female Mastic can connect leafy freshness with woods, herbs and balsamic materials without creating a hard transition.

It is particularly useful when a composition needs green character that gradually settles into something warmer, drier and more grounded.

The origin of the material

Female Pistacia lentiscus from Jebel Bargou.

Fresh leaves are harvested from wild female plants and distilled directly, without a drying stage.

Keeping the plant fresh preserves its immediate green character, while the extraction gradually exposes the resinous, woody and aromatic facets beneath.

As with the male material, three olfactory evaluations are carried out during distillation, making the pair particularly interesting to smell side by side.
