Introducing the material

Lemongrass beyond the obvious lemon.

Cymbopogon citratus is instantly associated with bright citrus, but the plant carries considerably more underneath. Its freshness is green, grassy and aromatic, with a slightly earthy warmth running beneath the sharper lemon character.

Distillation makes that contrast especially clear: something vivid and immediately recognisable, but rooted firmly in the plant rather than simply smelling “citrusy”.

The opening

Bright, sharp and immediately citrus-led. Lemon freshness arrives first, surrounded by crushed green grass and a slightly herbaceous edge.

The development

The initial brightness begins to broaden. Green leaves, warm herbs and a softer earthy quality emerge underneath the citrus, making the material feel increasingly botanical.

The drydown

Dry, grassy and gently citrus-aromatic. The sharp lemon character becomes quieter, leaving warm vegetation and a clean herbal trace.

The material in composition

Citrus freshness with a green backbone.

Lemongrass can bring brightness without behaving exactly like a citrus peel oil. Its grassy and herbal body allows it to connect naturally with aromatic materials, woods and other green botanicals.

Used more sparingly, the recognisable lemongrass character recedes and becomes something more structural: lift, movement and a sharp green tension running through a composition.

The origin of the material

Naturalized lemongrass from Zaghouan.

The material grows naturalized in the Zaghouan region and is harvested fresh between January and March.

Rather than drying the plant first, flowers and leaves enter distillation fresh. This preserves more of the immediate green and volatile character surrounding its intense citrus profile.

As with the other POM materials, three olfactory evaluations are carried out during extraction, following how the balance between brightness, green plant material and heavier aromatic facets develops over time.
