Introducing the material

Geranium, but softer, rounder and unexpectedly floral.

Harvested around Kairouan, this cultivated geranium immediately stood apart from the sharper profile often associated with commercial geranium oils.

There is still the recognisable green-rosy identity of the plant, but its edges feel softer. The result is floral, aromatic and beautifully rounded – familiar enough to understand immediately, but different enough to make you smell again.

That difference is not only subjective. Its analytical profile helps explain why the material feels unusual.

The opening

Fresh, green and floral, with an aromatic brightness that feels soft rather than aggressively sharp.

The development

The green opening expands into a fuller floral body. Rosy nuances remain, but sit alongside softer aromatic and leafy facets.

The drydown

Smooth, green-floral and persistent, leaving a warmer and quieter impression than the opening.

The material in composition

Floral freshness without too much sharpness.

This geranium can connect citrus, florals, herbs and woods without dominating the formula.

Its softer balance makes it especially interesting where a conventional geranium might feel too rosy or too assertive. It has presence, but also gives other materials room to breathe.

The origin of the material

An experimental expression from Kairouan.

The material is cultivated around Kairouan and distilled fresh from flowers and leaves.

GC-MS showed citronellol at 23.87%, linalool at 12.70% and geraniol at 10.94%. The interesting part is not the numbers alone, but how they connect back to the nose: less citronellol-dominated sharpness and a softer, more floral balance.

The challenge is yield. Production therefore remains experimental and very limited while the recipe continues to be refined.
