Introducing the material

A familiar Mediterranean leaf seen from a different perspective.

Bay Laurel is instantly recognisable, yet smelling the freshly distilled material reveals far more than its culinary association.

There is vivid green freshness, aromatic warmth, subtle spice and a dry woody quality underneath. What begins as something almost domestic gradually becomes stranger and more perfumistic.

This material is also unusual because its story is not centred on one plantation, but on a network of small farms, family trees and privately owned plots across Jendouba.

The opening

Fresh and immediately aromatic, with leafy-green brightness and a cool, spicy lift.

The development

The freshness becomes warmer and fuller. Herbal, spicy and gently woody facets move to the foreground.

The drydown

Dry, aromatic and softly woody, with the recognisable bay character becoming quieter and more textural.

The material in composition

Aromatic structure with a distinctly Mediterranean edge.

Bay Laurel can bring definition to herbs and woods, introduce dryness into florals or create a bridge between green freshness and darker materials.

Its familiarity is an advantage. It gives the perfumer something immediately understandable, but with enough depth to move far beyond its culinary association.

The origin of the material

A harvest built from many small sources.

Across Jendouba, bay trees grow in gardens, family plots and privately owned land. Many families keep only a few trees, often primarily for everyday cooking.

After harvesting, fresh leaves are collected from different growers and brought together for distillation. The resulting material therefore reflects a wider agricultural and domestic landscape rather than a single plantation.

This distributed sourcing is an important part of what makes the material distinct.
